In a bid to promote tourism, the Kashmir tourism department in association with a private paragliding company has launched adventure paragliding in Srinagar, authorities said on Sunday.
Amid the sweltering heat across the country, tourists have now headed down the Kashmir valley to a mesmerizing new paragliding spot, Astanmarg top.
Located on the outskirts of Srinagar, the paraglider starts from the top of Astanmarg to the floor of Chandpora. Covering a drop of 2000 feet (ft), it serves as a treat for adventure seekers and tourists.
Tourists here book the ride online and report to Harwan Garden which is a 15-minute drive from Harwan to Astanmarg, perched at 2255 meters/7400 feet.
The experts have been briefed on the equipment and the safety instructions, after which the gliders can fly for 12 to 15 minutes. The landing point is Chandpora, Srinagar located at 1615 meters/5330 feet.
Visitors from afar and locals experienced the thrill of free flight.
“I have fulfilled my dream of flying like a bird from Astanmarg which overlooks Dal Lake, Mahadev Peak, Dachigam National Park and Mughal Gardens and it is mesmerizing from the top,” said tourist Atish Jain.
The trainers present on site also welcomed the participation.
“Glide through the clear blue sky in the fantastic and incredible view of the Zabarwan mountains, tourists love it,” said Hem Raj, a trainer.
With views of the eternal snows and sparkling waters of Dal Lake, paragliding in the area has become a favorite of tourists in the region.
