“Nadir On The Go” is a popular YouTube channel, run by Nadir – a Bangladeshi man documenting travelogues since 2016, as he visits different cities around the world. Recently, Nadir won the Best Content Creator award in the Travel Vlog category at Blender’s Choice – The Daily Star OTT & Digital Content Awards 2021.

Below are excerpts from a conversation we shared with Nadir.

What was your motivation for creating a travel channel on YouTube?

I have traveled a large part of my life. Once I was able to capture these experiences with modern smartphones, it only made sense to package them into videos I could look back on, so I could cherish my favorite moments. Initially the channel was just me making videos for myself, friends and family. When I started, I didn’t have big ambitions to be influential on social media and I didn’t think it could become a career.

Your inspiration to call your vlog: Nadir On The Go?

I’ve looked through quite a few brands trying to find something unique, eye-catching and that sums up my brand. Once I came across this name, it ticked all the boxes and made sense.

They say that to conquer your greatest fear, you swim with sharks. What message do you want to send to your fans through this achievement?

Although the experience was terrifying, it was one of the most fun things I have ever done. My message to anyone reading this is don’t let irrational fears get in the way of getting the most out of life.

You have nice vlogs about Dhaka and Cox’s Bazar. Is there any other city in particular that you want to cover that you feel hasn’t been revealed as much as it should have been?

In Bangladesh, the only city I always wanted to cover but haven’t had the chance to visit yet is Chattogram. I used to go there with my family almost every year when I was a kid and would like to make a video about the history and highlights of the city one day.

For a traveler, each country is unique and there are great stories to tell. However, if you had to choose your top five travel experiences, which would they be and why?

It is very difficult to choose only five experiences, but I will list the trips that I really cherish, in no particular order:

Singapore, 1997

A family trip that was my first time visiting a place that felt nothing like home.

New York, USA, 2011

It was the first step when I moved abroad for college and my first taste of the western world.

Reykjavik, Iceland, 2013

My first trip to Europe. I spent a semester at the University of Iceland and made some amazing friends.

Europe, summer 2018

I traveled around 30 cities in over 100 days. It was my first time traveling fast and solo for over a month, and it made me realize that this was the life I had always wanted to have.

Belgrade, Serbia, 2021

A short trip that ended up being a long one and Belgrade has become my favorite city and the place where I feel most at home.

Travel vlogging is a very expensive hobby, so I’d make sure I had a way to fund it that didn’t depend on vlogging itself. Everything else will come with time and one can learn everything needed for free on the internet.
