A Toolstation survey has revealed the most popular biscuit to accompany a brew in the UK. And it’s no surprise that chocolate digestives are the winners by a clear slam dunk, with 13 of the 17 cities assessed having the chocolate treat as their treat of choice.
The 17 cities studied were Edinburgh, Newcastle, Leeds, Sheffield, Glasgow, Belfast, Nottingham, Birmingham, Norwich, Liverpool, Manchester, Cardiff, Plymouth, London, Bristol, Southampton and Brighton. Regular digestives came in second.
Digestives are by far the top two choices, with the rest of the biscuits not boasting to be as good. Rich Tea, Hobnobs, and Shortbread got one vote each from the city-based vote.
The study also compares tradespeople’s choices to those of the general population, and there’s even more variation here. Plumbers opt for biscoffs, while carpenters and handymen opt for ginger nuts, but again chocolate digestives and regular digestives rank first for traders.
In the study, Yorkshire Tea took the top spot as the UK’s favorite national drink brand, with 20% of respondents who chose the type of tea as a reference.
It also turned out that the engineers like their beers the strongest, with an infusion time of three to four minutes. They also chose a chocolate digestive as the perfect accompaniment to the tea.
Builders and Decorators aren’t too picky with the strength of their infusions, allowing only 10-30 seconds for infusion time. Bathroom and kitchen installers are not far behind, with an infusion time of 30 to 45 seconds.
The rest of the traders agreed on the brewing hours. All were satisfied with one or two minutes.
Toolstation surveyed 478 merchants and 1,005 from the general population. They asked them their favorite cookie of choice with their infusion.
