Paris fire: emergency teams fight a fire near a hot spot in the center of the French capital | World news
A large fire broke out in a building near a tourist hotspot in central Paris, sending sheets of flames and thick smoke.
The fire broke out in a property on Boulevard des Capucines, near Place de l’Opéra.
People were told to avoid the area as firefighters tackled the dramatic blaze.
Respirator crews used ladders to reach the flames and extinguish them with high pressure hoses.
The cause of the fire is not yet known and there were no casualties, according to the emergency services.
Firefighter spokesman Florian Lointier said: “There are no casualties. When the firefighters arrived, no one made themselves known to them, whether in offices or homes.”
The square is popular with visitors as it offers a grandstand view of the Italian-style opera house Palais Garnier.
It is also the crossroads of several major Parisian axes, including avenue de l’Opéra, boulevard des Capucines, and boulevard des Italiens.
According to the Paris tourist office, it is “an ideal place for a photo or a kiss”.
