Obituary: Rejane L. Lemieux – Lewiston Sun Journal

Réjane L. Lemieux

LEWISTON – Rejane L. Lemieux, 90, of Lewiston, died at her home on June 15, 2022, after a long illness.

Rejane was born on September 12, 1931 to Eddie and Ida (Cote) Levesque in Lewiston. She attended schools in Lewiston.

As a child, she helped the family by picking beans for Charlie Moore and was a champion bean picker. Réjane was one of seven daughters and had a very close relationship with her sister Lorette, her fishing companion. She also traveled to see her sister, Irene and her husband, Gene, visit the places where they were stationed.

Réjane was introduced to Laurent by her sister, Rose Richard. Eventually, she fell in love with this brown-eyed, curly-haired, shiny-shoe guitarist.

After marrying Larry, they spent many years building homes together. It was common to see Réjane on the roof, pregnant, brandishing a hammer. Later, after raising seven children, she was employed by Androscoggin Home Health and won numerous awards for her superior work ethic, loving care and exceptional ability to build relationships with her French clients. After her 20 years of caring, she continued to volunteer for another 10 years with the company.

She was a world traveler, a skilled knitter, a puzzle maker, and an avid woodworker. Later in life, Rejane spent a lot of time listening to WLAM elders, birdwatching and identifying the different species that visited her multiple feeders. She had a soft spot for her cardinals, Larry and Ida.

Her faith was important to her and she attended Mass every Sunday, even during the pandemic via livestream. Rejane loved to travel and was lucky enough to visit Jerusalem with Larry. This trip resonated with Réjane because “I walked in the footsteps of Jesus”. She was a member of several groups: the Good News Prayer Group, St. Joseph’s Church Choir, Eucharistic Minister and the Queen’s Guild Society.

Rejane was predeceased by her husband, Larry; daughter, Ida May Real, son, Louis; granddaughter, Sarah Lewis, and grandson, Joseph Lemieux.

She is survived by her sons Paul and his wife Kathie of Sabattus, Clement and his wife Patricia of Lewiston, her daughters Rita Lewis and her husband Philip of Sabattus, Irene Marshall and her husband David of Monmouth, and Marie Lemieux and his wife Jeanne Cyr of Lewiston.

Rejane was a proud 17-year-old grandmother; 24-year-old great-grandmother; and great-great-grandmother of two children.

Visitation will be held at Albert and Burpee Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 21 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A Christian funeral mass will be held at Holy Family Church on Wednesday, June 22 at 1 p.m., followed by interment prayers at St. Peter’s Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made to the Good Shepherd Food Bank and the Androscoggin Humane Society, where they adopted Sally and Bella.
