Tourist Spot

mussoorie: Lake Mussoorie is a symbol of mismanagement, say locals | Dehradun News

Mussoorie: Lake Mussoorie, once a popular tourist spot, has become a “symbolic site of mismanagement”, according to locals and tourists. Thousands of tourists throng to the place which is near Bhatta on the Doon-Mussoorie road. “There are piles of trash piled up everywhere. The access road is also in ruins and the electric lights are not working,” said Manoj Kumar Vyas, a tourist from Gujarat who recently visited the lake.
In fact, lake traders have pointed out that the tourist site is plagued with a host of problems, including lack of solid waste management, sewage dumping into the lake, lack of cleanliness, access roads inadequate and poor lighting.
“The stream that feeds the lake passes through the locality of Dhobighat located near the place. Most of the houses in Dhobighat are not connected by sewer lines and during the rains they open their sewage tanks and flow into the stream. The sewage is polluting the whole lake which is a boating destination,” said Charan Singh, a trader.
UC Tiwari, Managing Director of MMC, told TOI, “There was a power supply problem at Jheel, which caused the lights not to work. We will fix it shortly. Tiwari also assured that he would clean up dumps.
