Mid-Hudson Valley named one of America’s safest cities
A town in the Hudson Valley has just been rated one of the safest in the country.
When you think of the safe towns of the Hudson Valley, you probably immediately think of Rhinebeck, Millbrook, Woodstock, Warwick or one of the many small, quiet villages dotted around the Central Hudson region. But according to a list of the safest places to live in 2021 just released by Safewise, these local bucolic towns are pale compared to a popular local tourist destination that has claimed 26th place.
The list highlights the cities in America with the lowest crime rates. Cities in the top 100 have a collective rate of violent crime 92% lower than the national average and property crime 79% lower than the rest of the country.
While Mid-Hudson Valley has the 26th safest city, there are other cities around the region that scored even higher. The hamlet of Carmel in Putnam County came in at number 14 on the list and right on the border with Orange County, New Jersey, the Township of Vernon just made the top 20 at number 19.
But when it comes to the Mid Hudson area, Hyde Park has come out on top. FDR’s home, Vanderbilt Estate and Roller Magic is currently the safest place to live in the area. The violent crime rate is listed at just 0.19 per 1,000 people and property crimes are 4.04 per 1,000. These numbers are considerably lower than they were in 2020 when Hyde Park was listed as the 61st safest place to live in the country.
No other community in the Hudson Valley has made a list of the 100 safest cities for 2021.
