Goleta launches nationwide search for new city manager | Local News

With current City Manager Michelle Greene working remotely from Vermont and planning to retire in June, Goleta is now embarking on a nationwide search for her replacement.

Goleta hired a consultant Ralph Andersen & Associates to help find a replacement for Greene, who has worked for the city for 18 years.

According to the job description, the annual salary will be at least $267,000 with a flexible benefit plan allowance of $1,295 per month, car allowance of $700 per month, telephone allowance of $150 per month and 80 hours off per year.

In October, Greene moved to Vermont to care for an ailing family member. the Goleta City Council concluded behind closed doors that she could work remotely, but did not report the move to the public until Noozhawk inquired about the long-distance move in February.

The aim is to have the new city manager in place by July or “at a mutually agreeable date thereafter”, according to the job posting.

Goleta councilman James Kyriaco said he was keen to find a suitable replacement.

“I am looking for an experienced and qualified professional with a passion for public service who upholds high ethical standards, a commitment to transparency and demonstrates an engaging leadership style,” Kyriaco said.

Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. A master’s degree in public or business administration or an applicable field of study is preferred, depending on the job posting.

Practical experience as a city manager or deputy manager is strongly desired by the city council.

The brochure indicates that the current population of La Goleta is 33,000 inhabitants and that the general plan adopted allows a construction of approximately 38,000 inhabitants by 2030.

“The area offers a range of opportunities for passive leisure and active sports including wine and beer tasting, hiking, cycling, bird watching, deep sea fishing, snorkeling , scuba diving and cycling,” the brochure says.

The job description information also states: “Goleta has a total budget for the 2021-22 fiscal year of $51.1 million with a General Fund budget of $32.2 million. The city is in a strong financial position, with a balanced budget and fully funded reserves. City operations and services are provided by 114 full-time and part-time employees, supplemented by contract services.”

The deadline to apply is May 2, and the brochure states that “top candidates will also have a tour of the city and the opportunity to speak with the outgoing City Manager (Mrs. Michelle Greene) during the final stages of this process”.
