Explore a section of the Oldsmar Trail
Many of us are looking for ways to stay active while staying a safe distance from others. That’s why Sarah Phinney created “Sarah’s Walking Club” to highlight some hidden and less hidden trails and parks in Tampa Bay.
Discover a beautiful part of the Oldsmar Trail from the Cypress Forest Recreation Center. This is one of the more natural parts of the trail.
What is that?
The Oldsmar Trail is a 10 mile loop that crosses the entire city. Some parts are connected by sidewalks.
There are several places you can access the trail, including from the Cypress Forest Recreation Center. It is located at:
650, avenue des Pins Nord
Oldsmar, Florida 34677
It costs $ 5 per car to park at the recreation center from April to November because of the spray park.
Inside the recreation center you will find program rooms, gymnasium and restrooms.
Behind you can access fitness stations and a connector to the Oldsmar trail.
“It’s one of our most natural settings here for the trail,” said Chip Potts, director of Oldsmar Recreation Services. “We have boardwalks and bodies of water that you can see as you walk.”
Signs along the way let visitors know what kind of wildlife they may see while visiting.
“We’ve seen alligators before, we’ve seen birds, squirrels, all kinds of nature and then there’s also the natural flora and flowers that you see here too,” Potts said.
When should I visit?
If you want to experience this part of the Oldsmar Trail when the Cypress Forest Recreation Center is open, you can visit Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
