Dr Sim plans to retire if he can serve Batu Kawah for another term
KUCHING (December 15): Batu Kawah incumbent Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian is hoping his constituents give him their votes on Saturday (December 18) as he seeks to serve an additional term before retiring.
He reassured voters that it is safe to vote as the number of Covid-19 cases in the state has declined over the past few days, while a high rate of vaccination, including booster shots, has been achieved.
“Don’t stay home on December 18th. Come vote. It is safe for us to go out and vote, ”he said during the Safe and Clean River Program in Kampung Rantau Panjang today.
“I plan to give one more term before I retire and hand over to the younger generation,” he said.
Dr Sim is in a four-way fight to defend the siege against Fong Pau Teck from the People’s Aspiration Party of Sarawak (Aspirasi), Chai Kueh Khun from the Bumi Kenyalang Party (PBK) and Dr Kelvin Yii from the Party of democratic action (DAP).
On the program, he urged the villagers to keep the river clean as it can become an income-generating tourist attraction.
He suggested that projects such as the Batu Kawah Riverbank Park could be extended to Kampung Rantau Panjang, and that the river should be kept clean and tidy to ensure success.
With the increase in traffic in the area, he said villagers would be able to take advantage of better economic opportunities with abundant river products such as shrimp and fish, and promote the area as a place of recreation.
He added that there are plans to build a glass bridge in Sungai Moyan as a tourist attraction.
“The glass bridge will be a special bridge, which will produce a sound effect of breaking glass when stepped on. It will be great for tourists who like a challenge, to see if they dare to walk on the bridge with the sound effect of the cracking glass.
