David L. Houser | Carroll County Comet
David L. Houser was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He passed away on Friday, June 18, 2021 at the age of 72 at Sainte-Élisabeth Est Hospital in Lafayette, surrounded by his family.
David was born in Lafayette on July 20, 1948, son of Alma E. Leslie and Fred W. Houser. He graduated from Delphi High School in 1966. After graduating from high school, he exercised his civil liberty by joining the Indiana National Guard, where he served for four years. When the National Guard leaves, David joins Alcoa in Lafayette. He retired in 2003 after 36 years of service.
David married Delores A. Johnson on October 21, 1967. They raised four wonderful children, Doug, Dustin, Jennifer and Jeremy. Their favorite activities included camping and landscaping. After years of raising beef and pigs, they sold their small farm and built a house in Delphi where Delores resided until his death on September 10, 2001.
David married Kathy A. Witt on March 23, 2002. They loved to travel, bird watch and spend time on the patio. They made many trips, including Hawaii and an Alaska cruise. The last nine winters have been spent at their home in Florida, where they have often been seen biking, playing cards and drinking coffee on the deck.
Those who knew David described him as loving, hardworking and determined. A father when he was founded, David was very passionate about farming, gardening, comparing his rainfall with others and decorating Christmas.
David is survived by his wife, Kathy; four children, Doug Houser, Chicago, Illinois, Dustin Houser and Tammy Grandstaff, Delphi, Ind., Jennifer Yoder (Jerry), Goshen, Ind., and Jeremy Houser (Kathy), Radnor, Ind .; daughter, Misty Johnson, Delphi, Ind., and son, Troy Lewis, Tampa, Florida. He was the proud grandfather of 25 grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Don Houser (Rhonda), Lafayette, Ind .; her brother-in-law, Tom Ginn of Delphi; and many nieces and nephews.
David was predeceased by his parents, Alma and Fred Houser; spouse, Delores Houser; a grandson, Joseph David Houser in 2000; and his sister, Pat Ginn.
He loved all his family dearly and treated them all as his own. He loved being together for the many gatherings they shared as a family.
Visitations will be held Thursday, June 24 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Abbott, Inc. Funeral Home, Delphi. His funeral will be on Friday, June 25 at 11 a.m. at the Delphi United Methodist Church, 1796 N. US 421, Delphi, with Pastor Brad Burton and Reverend Todd Ladd officiating. Interment will follow at Paint Creek Cemetery, Camden. The Carroll County Honor Guard will conduct military rites.
Memorial contributions can be made to The Delphi United Methodist Church for the ongoing upkeep and upkeep of their prayer garden; envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
