Critically injured woman who fell while taking a selfie in Benidorm tourist site has died
A seriously injured woman who fell while taking a selfie at a tourist spot in Benidorm has died in hospital.
The 26-year-old fell more than 20 meters and hit rocks from a vantage point at Mirador del Castillo in Benidorm. The woman, who was of Ukrainian nationality, died today, Friday September 17, three days after being admitted in critical condition to the intensive care unit at Alicante General University Hospital on Tuesday September 14.
The accident happened at the popular viewpoint known as the “Balcony of the Mediterranean”, one of the most photographed spots in the tourist capital of the Valencian Community.
At the time of the fall, the young woman, accompanied by a friend, had apparently climbed on a railing to take a photo with Levante beach in the background, as reported by rescuers in the area. The fall is over twenty meters down the cliff to the rocks and the sea.
After being located by the emergency services, the young woman had to be resuscitated by the SAMU unit which had gone to the scene. Upon arrival, medical teams performed advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation until they managed to recover her vital signs, before transferring her to a nearby hospital in Alicante.
