“Cox’s Bazar tourist raped for extortion of money”

The tourist in Cox’s Bazar was raped because she and her husband “refused to give in to extortion and pay money,” the Quick Action Battalion said, citing main suspect Ashiqul Islam.
Ashiqul, who has been charged in 12 cases including rape and extortion of money from tourists, went into hiding after his name was revealed in the incident, the RAB spokesperson said on Monday, Khandaker Al Moin, during a media call.
The elite police unit arrested Ashiqul from Madaripur on Sunday.
Earlier today, RAB had four more about the incident that rocked the nation.
Rezaul Karim Sahabuddin, 25, Mehedi Hasan, 21, and Mamunur Rashid, 28, as well as Ashiqul were indirectly implicated in the crime during the investigation.
However, two other main defendants in the Esrafil Huda Joy and Mehedi Hasan Babu case are still at large.

“Ashiqul is the leader of a gang of nearly 30 members involved in various crimes at Cox’s Bazar,” Moin told media.
“Tourists are their main target. They demanded 50,000 Tk from this woman and her husband, ”he said, adding that the survivor had met Ashiqul two days before the incident.
According to RAB, Ashiqul admitted to raping the woman after refusing to pay.
“However, he said he was unaware that the woman was raped in an isolated location in the first place,” said Moin, who heads the media and legal wing of the RAB.
“He left the woman with his associates and went to bring his motorcycle back,” he added.
According to the RAB, there are 12 cases against him for several crimes including rape, extortion, asking for money after kidnapping, assault.
“He recently served two and a half years in prison in one of the cases.”
According to the senior RAB officer, Ashiqul rented apartments in the tourist spot to owners at low prices, then rented them out to tourists at exorbitant prices.

The 22-year-old checked into a hotel in Cox’s Bazar on Tuesday with her husband and their eight-month-old baby. In the afternoon, the family went out for a walk on the sea beach.
In Laboni, the husband got into an altercation with one of the defendants – believed to be Ashiq, who has an extensive criminal record and only came out of his last stint in prison two weeks ago – after they broke away. are accidentally crossed.
What started as a small argument quickly turned into a major altercation and the young man called his accomplices on the spot. Later that day, they kidnapped the family in two auto-rickshaws and took them to a desolate location near the golf club where three of them allegedly raped the woman.
His ordeal did not end there. The woman was taken to the Zia Guest Inn, whose arrested manager Riaz Uddin was a friend of Ashiq, and there the three defendants again took turns raping her for hours.
They released her in the early hours of Thursday and reportedly threatened to kill her family if she shared her ordeal with anyone.
The woman’s husband filed a complaint under the Prevention of Punishment of Women and Children Act at the Cox’s Bazar Sadar Model Police Station on Thursday, charging seven people.
The court recorded the victim impact statement on Friday, said Inspector Ruhul Amin, the investigator in charge of the case.
The next day, Riaz Uddin was arrested and remanded in custody for four days.
