Betty J. (Horn) Lehr, 99, of Sayre, Pa., Passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 18, 2021 at the Athens Health and Rehabilitation Center after living a happy and fulfilling life.

She was born January 18, 1922 in Sayre, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late Frank and Laura Horn.

Betty was a graduate of Sayre High School and Syracuse University. She was a life member of the Presbyterian Church in Sayre. Betty enjoyed gardening, politics, bird watching, and golf. She had a deep love for dogs, especially beagles! She loved to take care of her family. What Betty’s family remembers most of her is that she was a very generous person, but never asked for anything in return. She was a kind soul. Betty has spent time volunteering at the Robert Packer Hospital’s “Magic Mushroom” gift shop, traveling the world, and vacationing in Ocean City, Maryland.

She was predeceased by her parents, her husband W. Ernie Lehr, her sons-in-law John Sweeney, Leo Wisniewski and Louis Tomasso, her daughter-in-law Janet Lehr Tomasso and her brother John Horn.

Betty is survived by her daughters-in-law Charlotte Sweeney and Margaret Wisniewski, her sister-in-law Lois Horn, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and caregivers.

The family gathered for a private ceremony on Friday, July 30, 2021 at 1 p.m. for a celebration of Betty’s life. Interment took place in Tioga Point Cemetery immediately after the private service. A lunch was held at the Tomasso restaurant after the funeral.

In honor of Betty’s love for animals, memorial donations can be made in her memory at Stray Haven, 194 Shepard Road, Waverly, NY 14892.
