Over the past few months, leaks regarding this three-sneaker collection have circulated widely, but now we finally have official information on the release of two out of the three colorways.
The first sneaker set to hit the shelves is the Union x Fragment x Air Jordan 1 in a striking Black/White color scheme. This exclusive release will be available at just five select retailers this weekend, adding a layer of intrigue for sneaker enthusiasts. The stores designated to sell this coveted sneaker include Undefeated in New York City, Headquarter in Mexico City, Fragment in Tokyo, Tune in Seoul, and Starcow in Paris. Among these, only Tune has disclosed the method for obtaining the sneaker: customers must visit the store wearing a Fragment product to receive a scratch-off lottery ticket granting them a chance to purchase the shoe.
Following closely on its heels is the Union x Fragment x Air Jordan 1 in Varsity Red/Sport Royal, scheduled for release on February 14, conveniently coinciding with NBA All-Star Weekend. Union has even gone as far as to produce an intriguing trailer that depicts a surgical amphitheater where a team of medical professionals is seen diligently working on the sneaker. Notably, the colorway shown in this promotional material, featuring red, blue, white, and black, appears to be the only one confirmed for this release, alongside accompanying apparel that will be available exclusively in a digital format, as indicated by Union.
However, details about the third colorway, Sport Royal/Black/White, are still under wraps, leaving fans eager for updates.
This collection embraces a unique mash-up design aesthetic that Union initially introduced with their first collaboration on the Air Jordan 1 back in 2018. The distinct contrast stitching highlights the separation between the collar and the main upper, with each section presented in varying colors. Adding to the complexity of this collaboration is Fragment’s signature lightning bolt logo placed on the lateral heel, accompanied by product text printed on the midsole.
For this particular release, the design concept has been dubbed the "Urahara Stitch." This term pays homage to the Ura-Harajuku neighborhood in Tokyo, which played a pivotal role in shaping streetwear culture during the 1990s. Notably, Hiroshi Fujiwara, the founder of Fragment, and Chris Gibbs, the owner of Union, both established their connections during this influential period.
