The Beatles' Biopics Expand Cast With David Morrissey Among New Names

The highly anticipated four-part series of biopics about The Beatles, produced by Sam Mendes and Sony, has expanded its cast, adding figures from the band's inner circle, including family members, roadies, and press officers. Joining the project is David Morrissey, known for his role in 'The Walking Dead', who will portray Paul McCartney's father, Jim McCartney. Leanne Best, from 'Walk-In', will play John Lennon's Aunt Mimi, while Bobby Schofield, who appeared in 'The Covenant', will take on the role of road manager and trusted confidant Neil Aspinall. Daniel Hoffmann-Gill, from 'Sherwood', will play roadie Mal Evans, and Arthur Darvill, who starred in 'Broadchurch', will portray press officer and friend Derek Taylor. The controversial music manager Allen Klein will be played by Adam Pally, from 'Happy Endings'.

In other casting news, Harry Lloyd, who appeared in 'The Theory of Everything', has been confirmed as The Beatles' long-time music producer, George Martin. The previously reported addition of James Norton as the band's influential manager, Brian Epstein, has also been confirmed. The casting of other central characters, including Cynthia Lennon and Ravi Shankar, will be announced in due course.

The lead stars include Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Harrison Dickinson as John Lennon, Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr, and Joseph Quinn as George Harrison. Saoirse Ronan, Anna Sawai, Aimee Lou Wood, and Mia McKenna-Bruce will play Linda McCartney, Yoko Ono, Pattie Boyd, and Maureen Starkey, respectively. The four films, now in production, will tell the story of The Beatles from each band member's unique perspective. Jez Butterworth, Peter Straughan, and Jack Thorne wrote the scripts, with Mendes directing all four films and producing alongside his Neal Street partner, Pippa Harris, and Julie Pastor. Alexandra Derbyshire is also producing. Sony Pictures will finance and distribute the films worldwide, with a theatrical release set for April 2028.

This ambitious project promises to offer a comprehensive and nuanced portrayal of The Beatles' journey, capturing the band's impact on music and culture. With such a diverse and talented cast, the series is sure to provide an insightful and engaging exploration of the band's history.
