Seattle Power Outage: Over 16,000 Customers Affected by High Winds - Latest Updates (2026)

Power Outage Strikes Seattle: Over 16,000 Customers Affected!

Imagine coming home to a dark house, the fridge humming silently, and the evening plans completely disrupted. That's the reality for over 16,000 Seattle residents right now. As of 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, a significant power outage has plunged parts of the city into darkness, specifically impacting 16,146 customers in North Seattle, according to Seattle City Light's outage map.

But here's where it gets concerning: the cause of this widespread blackout is under investigation, but the National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a wind advisory for western Washington, in effect from 4 p.m. Tuesday to 6 a.m. Wednesday. This means we can expect some seriously gusty winds!

The NWS warns that these winds could cause all sorts of trouble. They could easily blow around unsecured objects, and, even worse, bring down tree limbs. And, as we're already seeing, power outages are a definite possibility.

Could this be a sign of things to come? With climate change bringing more extreme weather events, are we prepared for the increasing frequency of these disruptions? What do you think? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
