Gordon Ramsay pushes back on bullying claims as tensions with Adam Peaty’s parents flare up
Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay has dismissed suggestions that he bullied his son-in-law’s family, calling the allegations “absolute nonsense” and saying he welcomed them into his circle when their daughter began dating Peaty.
In an interview with The Sun, Ramsay explained that he opened his door and invited Peaty’s family to be part of his own life when Holly Ramsay Peaty entered the picture. Holly, who now uses the name Holly Ramsay Peaty, married three-time Olympic champion Adam Peaty in a high-profile ceremony at Bath Abbey in December.
Reports of a rift within the family have circulated, with the Daily Mail claiming that the tension intensified after Peaty’s mother, Caroline, wasn’t invited to the bride’s hen party. Earlier this month, The Sun also reported that Peaty’s parents described Ramsay as “a big bully” who had pushed them too far.
Ramsay told The Sun, “I’m certainly not a bully.” He defended the invite and said hosting a personal chauffeur-driven car to Nottingham to bring the family to the party was evidence of his hospitality. He noted that Holly and Adam were organizing the event, while Caroline and Mark (Peaty’s parents) and Tana Ramsay (his wife) were guests, calling the constant suggestion of bullying “absolute nonsense.”
He added that there had already been friction before the engagement, and that the family needed to resolve some issues. He described the prevailing negativity as self-propelled by Peaty’s parents and suggested that dwelling on it feeds negative press attention.
Ahead of a forthcoming Netflix documentary charting Ramsay’s preparations to open three new restaurants, a bar, and a cookery academy at London’s 22 Bishopsgate, Ramsay urged Peaty’s parents to extend more respect toward their son.
“Adam is an incredible young man, and I understand how he has supported his family,” Ramsay said. “For his family to speak about him so detrimentally, knowing what he’s done for them, they should show more respect for what Adam has done.”
Holly and Adam have just started their life together, Ramsay noted, acknowledging that families can fall out but insisting that they should avoid fueling the conflict and show a bit of decorum. He expressed frustration with a perceived lack of support from Adam’s parents, arguing that they should handle life’s challenges with maturity rather than inflaming public opinion.
