On January 3, 2015, Dana White, the UFC's big boss, had to eat his words. He had previously turned down Reneau, telling her she was "too old" to make it in the UFC. But here's where it gets controversial...
Reneau, a former teacher, had started her training journey in her 30s, driven by the desire for financial stability for herself and her son. And boy, did she prove them wrong! At 37 years old, she made her UFC debut and dominated Alexis Dufresne, winning by unanimous decision with scorecards that spoke volumes: 30-26, 30-26, and 30-25.
When asked about her performance, White had to publicly apologize. "She looked awesome, and I was wrong again," he admitted.
Reneau's response? "Too old, whatever. I earned my spot here." And earn it she did!
Over the years, she competed a total of 13 times inside the Octagon, facing off against former UFC champions like Jessica Andrade, Holly Holm, and Miesha Tate.
In 2021, at 44 years old, Reneau retired as the oldest female fighter to ever compete in the UFC. She left the Octagon with her head held high, knowing she had given it her all.
"I'm saying goodbye," she said. "I'll be cheering everyone on in the bantamweight division."
