Scotland Braces for Another Weekend of Winter Weather Disruptions
The Met Office has issued an Amber Snow Warning for parts of Scotland, effective from 03:00 on Sunday, with more severe wintry conditions expected. This follows a week of travel disruptions across the north of the country.
The warning area, extending from the North East into Tayside and Central Scotland, will see heavy and persistent snowfall, potentially cutting off rural communities. The Scottish government, police, and local authorities are preparing for the impact, with many schools remaining closed for a second consecutive week.
The Met Office's Yellow Warnings for snow, wind, and rain cover a large portion of the country, with bitter cold temperatures expected to persist. The council in Aberdeenshire has urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel and provide road condition updates via an online portal.
A spokesperson for the council stated, 'The volume of snow has exceeded the capacity of streets, requiring digging and removal operations.'
As Scotland's justice secretary, Angela Constance, noted, 'The ongoing snowfall and cold conditions have caused significant disruptions, and we are working towards recovery. Thank you to the public for their patience and understanding during this challenging period.'
