200 Main Art & Wine Gallery will close, but the owners will keep the …
Since its opening in 2017, 200 Art & Wine in downtown Eau Claire has been a labor of love.
It featured dozens of artists from the Chippewa Valley, perfectly associated with wine and beer. And while owners Terry Meyer and Jo Ellen Burke plan to close the beloved downtown gallery at the end of April, that isn’t the end of their support for the Chippewa Valley art scene.
“We’re not going anywhere,” Burke said. “We believe in the essential role the arts play in making our community great.”
The decision to close the gallery doors was not an easy one, but it was made imminent by the COVID-19 pandemic. Since the artistic duo have no employees and do not pay themselves, they were not entitled to many loans or grants. “It was really tough,” said Burke, “since we put our hearts and souls into this business, learning so much and loving all the people we met, the art we shared and the events that we held you. “
It was indeed difficult, as we invested our hearts and souls in this endeavor, learning so much and loving all the people we met, the art we shared and the events we hosted.

However, that’s not bad news for Meyer and Burke, as Burke’s daughter is expecting her first child and they can’t wait to start a new chapter as grandparents. “It tends to change his world a bit,” the couple shared in an email announcing the gallery’s closure, “and new priorities will foster more creativity and love than ever! We are not inclined to be idle people and plan to be a part of this creative city for a long time! “
Burke will continue his spearheading efforts with the Eau Claire Public Arts Council and act as a visual instructor at the Midwest Artist Academy this summer.
The gallery will benefit from a 20% discount on all works of art from March 1 to 15 (in store and online) from Wednesday to Friday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
“I am moved as I think of all the amazing people we have encountered on this ‘gallery trip’,” said Burke. “This is the best part of it all. We made friends that we will always have and are so grateful to the more than 40 artists, authors and musicians who have entrusted us with their breathtaking work.
